Te Marae Komiti O Kauwhata Charitable Trust

Was constituted in 1932 by the Tupuna of Ngati Kauwhata when changes were made to the then Native Act. It was re-constituted in 1996 to conform with the Ture Whenua Act. 

 TE KOMITI MARAE O KAUWHATA TRUST is the recognized and only Treaty Claimant [Wai 784]  for Ngati Kauwhata. All though many proclaim to represent Ngati Kauwhata none have the mandate from the  Kaumatua/Kuia and Whanau of Ngati Kauwhata which is currently causing conflict.  This is no different from many other Iwi who have been subjected by the self annointed and self appointed under the kaupapa of outdated and repealed Acts of the Crown to gain self recognition for their own monetary gains.  When the Kaumatua/Kuia and Whanau of Ngati Kauwhata stand and deliver their  Waitangi Claim these issues will be addressed. In the mean time Ngati Kauwhata will continue to challenge all who try to inflict their own kaupapa without consultation to the Kaumatua/Kuia and Whanau of Ngati Kauwhata.

  KAUPAPA: To PROTECT , to ADVANCE , to DEVELOP and to UNIFY the true interest of the WHANAU and HAPU of NGATI KAUWHATA in the Spirit of Tino Rangatiratanga implicit in the Treaties signed in Good Faith with the Crown and Tau Iwi .

TO PROTECT: By strengthening the Whanau and Hapu of Ngati Kauwhata in all aspects of MAORI TIKANGA : KAWA     WHAKAIRO     TAONGA     KAI IKA    WAIATA TE REO     MATAURANGA     WHENUA     WAHI TAPU TUKUTUKU     WHAKAPAPA     MAHINGA KAI     URUPA AND PROVIDING SUPPORT TO ALL OF THE WHANAU, HAPU OF NGATI KAUWHATA AS DIRECTED BY THE WHANAU, HAPU OF NGATI KAUWHATA.

 TO ADVANCE : By CHALLENGING and CHANGING existing mono cultural structures / organisations to incorporate MAORI VALUES and processes HEALTH     EDUCATION     HOUSING     SOCIAL SERVICES M.AF.     D.O.C.     EMPLOYMENT     JUSTICE LOCAL GOVERNMENT         CENTRAL GOVERNMENT

 TO DEVELOP : A ECONOMIC BASE encompassing the Whanau and Hapu of Ngati Kauwhata initiatives, run by the Whanau and Hapu of Ngati Kauwhata utilising the Whanau and Hapu of Ngati Kauwhata resources BY IMPLEMENTING meaningful TRAINING PROGRAMMES to EDUCATE the  Whanau and Hapu of Ngati Kauwhata in keeping with the changing POLITICAL STRUCTURES .

TO UNIFY : TO continue to IDENTIFY the Whanau and Hapu of Ngati Kauwhata NEEDS thereby giving STRENGTH to the Whanau and Hapu of Ngati Kauwhata.
